Pepper was rescued out of a Georgia shelter. She is said to be about 4 years old, but we think she is younger. She is dangerously thin, has a magnificent and large head which makes her condition that much worse (she looks like a bobble head...). She is missing a lot of hair and staggers a bit, maybe because she is so gaunt. She is also covered in what appears to be healing wounds. And now, she is beginning to show the familiar signs of kennel cough. I am not certain, but I am guessing she has had a rough couple of weeks (and years). She is, indeed, busting my heart all up. But, here in this grainy, unfocused picture, you can sorta see her ... (Read More)wounds and you can sorta see her vertebrae, haunches, skinny neck...and it is all wonderfully obscured by the blur of a happy and grateful tail. She is also Heartworm positive and we will begin treatment shortly. We have called her Pepper because Moreland is the street in Atlanta she was found on and we will have none of that! Washing it away... She loves my kids and has already warmed up 100%. She is still very weak and we only take her for very short strolls, but she will hop up on you for a snuggle now and that is just great news. She is a little bit guarded when it comes to eating, however--I expect this will disappear once she knows she is no longer slowly starving to death. She did let me pet her and move her bowl hen she was eating so I think she will be just fine. Appears to know sit (for treats anyways) but only when motivated by food. She just might weave a basket for food at this point so not sure yet if she has basic skills underway. We will work on that later. She is wonderfully sweet and her tail no longer is tucked between her legs. It wags and wags and wags :) She is stained with filth and while she has had a bath--she will probably need a few more it is so caked on. I think she is more like 2!! She's had a litter of course, possibly 2. The applicant was approved, but as luck would have, it poor Brooklyn isn't a match for that particular home. You see Brooklyn was stabbed, so he is understandably fearful and in the past there was a thought it was gender specific (men), however it has been discovered that Brooklyn generally loves all people. In fact, he is currently being fostered and just loves his foster daddy! He has shown a lot of love to everyone he has encountered at his foster home (male/female alike, including an 8 year old) but in order to ensure that his trust continues to grow, he needs extreme patience, love and understanding with the right family. As we are focusing on helping Brooklyn overcome the significant emotional scars from the torment he had to endure and the cruel stabbing he suffered, we are specifically working on his trust and confidence for all people. Although he does do well in meeting other dogs with supervision, we are focusing on finding him a home where he is the only dog and no kitties. While a paint job is not a good reason to choose a dog, Ginger's personality certainly is! Tiger is a friendly young dog I always find sitting or laying calmly in a kennel that is consistently clean and orderly.. He has an endearing little face, all round, with a pout, that seems to beg me to take him out. He is quite good looking although a bit on the thin side. Tiger is leashed without fuss, lets me put a scarf and a coat on him without objecting. We run to the yard. Tiger is very house trained and needs to attend right away to business. Alexa is estimated to be no more than 1 year old. She is a happy, affectionate little girl - utterly lovable, friendly and mellow. She's a bumper, weaver and soft purrer who loves belly rubs and little kisses on her face. She will stay on your lap while you bestow her with the usual things cats love like head and neck rubs.
